FL 6.0.8 REPORT
BUGS in FL Studio 6.0.8:
1. The multimedia keyboard transport keys don't work with a BTC 9000A multimedia keyboard. But in Winamp and every other program it works OK.So this is a bug in FLStudio. This happens since 6.0.0
2. When replacing any instrument channel with Fruity Soundfont Player, the SoundFont Player window is not displayed, but the FL testing keyboard from the previous plugin remains,so you have to switch to another channel and go back for the Soundfont Player window to come back.
Some more useful suggestions for FLStudio:
Many very useful features and annoyances to be resolved this time
1. Add an option to disable realtime sampler interpolation - a "None" / "Off" setting.Useful for ASIO/CPU performance testing purposes.
2. Realtime interpolation for FRUITY SOUNDFONT PLAYER channels also, not just for sampler channels.
3. Fruity Gator effect plugin and gating presets.Remember Bram Bos' Tunafish sequencer and the Gator effect plugin with presets? Or how the gator was very important in Albino? I want something similar in FL Studio.
"Fruity Gator" and "Fruity Arpe-gator" (albino-style pattern-programmable arpeggiator and fruity gator combined),something like "Fruity Flangus" did.
4. Auto-color step sequenncer channels, patterns in playlist and audio tracks with different rainbow-style colors and change colors upon adding more,so it will save you time from editing colors manually and it will give you a Tracktion2-like better distinguishing of channels used.
5. Use the keyboard LEDs as indicators for some states in FL Studio.
6. Disable the beat indicator lights at the bottom of the step sequencer.Nobody needs them when working with piano-roll only.
7. Show Numbers (value) above the meters when turning knobs/sliders,etc. ,so you don't have to look always at the info window at the top left corner of the screen to see the numerical value of the parameters you adjust, and turn off all those messages displayed on the info window at the top left corner (for advanced users who can't stand it anymore)
8. Delete multiple selected channels at once in the step sequencer (not possible now). You can only cut, copy and paste but not delete multiple channels. Also, add a macro "Delete channels that are not presented by at least one pattern in the Playlist" (Purge channels not used in arrangement)
9. Add 1 or 2 patterns extra in the playlist before the very start of the first pattern, like in Cubase. When arranging patterns sometimes there is need to offset one pattern a bit earlier from the others, but to have all patterns start exactly at the start "1" mark. This is not possible now, without shifting all patterns at least 1 pattern to the right.Make this feature seklectable to turn ON/OFF.
Very useful for example when you have a pattern with slow strings soundfont that has a delay from the rest of the song, and you must move those patterns just a little left beyond the absolute start of the playlist to get everything in sync.
10.Add transpose feature for patterns in the playlist,so you can transpose any pattern in the playlist and make arranging chord/melody variations a lot easier.
11. 24-bit SoundFont (v2.4) support for Fruity SoundFont player (Creative/E-MU new 24-bit standard)
12. Transport Keys mappable to joypad buttons, not just multimedia keyboard.
13. If a project is loaded, but samples or soundfonts are missing in the project or couldn't be found in the specified default directory (red-colored channels),add a prompt to be able to point (browse) to a zipped project file or folder from which it will extract/search the samples missing.
14. If a soundfont is missing in a Fruity SoundFont player channel, and you browse and open the soundfont that's been missing,if more channels miss the same soundfont, load it to the other channels too,not just the current one.
15. A quick keyboard shortcut for just "Show ASIO Panel",to show just the ASIO settings, not the whole audio settings window.
Good things about 6.0.8:
- Chrome now doesn't switch display to fullscreen, reset your machine or crash anymore on preset change.
- ASIO performance is now the same as in FLStudio 5.0.2 with kX drivers and a bit faster with ASIO4ALL
- The new splash screen is a nice improvement
Some tests I've done with demo songs from 5.0.2 in 6.0.8:
Testing system #1: AtlonXP @ 1833MHz,1GB Dual Channel DDR333,Audigy2,nForce2 motherboard,old DirectX8.1-compatible graphics card,WindowsXP SP2 (not optimised,just set CPU affinity for background services,not programs)
"Are you clever" runs at 2ms (kX ASIO 16/48 Default Sync)
"Dirty-Clean" runs at 1.33ms (kX ASIO 16/48 Default Sync)
Tested also with my own projects (without any sampler channels). The lowest it can go on this machine is 1.33ms with kX in normal sync mode.At 1ms,it cannot play even 1 note without distortion, but at 1.33ms it handles a whole not-so-demanding project easily.
Depends on the CPU usage of the plugins.
with kX ASIO 16/48 Thread Sync (Constant 100% CPU usage),it runs all these songs and the demo from FL6 at the lowest setting of 0.67ms. Nice :)
With ASIO4ALL,the performance is down to 6ms at 24/48 with Audigy2 (3ms x (2x buffers)),but most projects need 8ms.
But when using sytrus pads,it will suck the last juice from your CPU,even if you have a 3GHz machine...
The worst performance is when playing staccato chords with sytrus.Even at 40ms it will stutter. It eats all CPU resources easily.
Soundfonts use the least CPU...You can run a project at the lowest latency while having loads of channels...but the realtime (playback) sound quality is...hmmm...without any sample interpolation.
Also tested with another machine:
Testing System #2: 3GHz Hyper-Threading Pentium IV,Onboard audio,512MB Dual Channel DDR400,GeForce FX5700,WinXP SP2 (a bit more optimised than the first one)... It's actually amazing how in DirectSound,it can achieve 2ms latency (!),same with FL5.0.2 Haven't tested with ASIO (ASIO4ALL) yet.I think it can go much lower :)
And,finally,another test tested
Testing System #3: Machine with exactly the same specs as #1,but with a well-optimised WindowsXP SP2 installation
With ASIO4ALL,it runs NewStuff.flp from 6.0.8 at 6ms with 6-point interpolation (24/48),without a single crackle :)
With the unoptimised XP,5ms was not possible.
Some of my projects now run at 5ms :)
(Note: it says 2.5ms (3ms) in the FL Audio Panel, but with ASIO4ALL set to 4 buffers you actually get 5ms)
This is really fast performance with the ASIO4ALL driver. It's never been this fast before
What's still missing in FLStudio6:
- Fruity scratcher with 2 turntables
- DirectWave VSTi
- Some Tutorial(s) for Fruity Envelope Controller plugin
